5-second summary: It's the Depression for Me is now available!
For those of you who have been following along on my journey, you know this has been a huge undertaking for me… writing a book. Ever since I started interviewing successful people around the world 3 years ago, I had planned to write a book about all the advice and stories I collected from the people I met.
While that’s still the general theme of the book, A LOT has changed. While writing, something just felt off. So, 3 weeks ago I finally sat down to figure out why.
I realized that the more I had been listening to the input from others, the more this project started to morph into something I never wanted it to be:
‘You have to fork out 6K for an editor, proofreader, copywriter, cover designer, etc.’
‘You need to spend years on this, don’t rush it.’
‘Don’t you want this to be a bestseller?’
Meanwhile, teens who are struggling amid this pandemic were trying to tell me:
‘Don’t spend years writing alone, we want to be a part of your journey!’
‘We don’t care if you have a publisher, we will help you promote it on social media.’
‘We need your help now! We would rather a short & simple book anyway.’
The goal of this book was never to become a bestseller, the goal of this book was to create a resource that I wish I had in high school. This book has always been meant to be a guiding light for those struggling like I was: teens who feel alone, stressed, anxious, depressed, or like they don’t know their purpose in life.
After I reminded myself of that, I set a crazy deadline for September 26th, 2020 to get this book done and published in 3 weeks.
While I’ve had a lot of support from family and friends along the way, this book was made by me, a 23-year-old who wanted to share her story to be a source of inspiration for Gen Z. This book isn't curated, it hasn’t been morphed by industry leaders telling me what to teach youth.
I’ve spent time with Gen Z, being a mentor and teacher for the past 4 years. And I’ve been listening. This book is honest, it's concise, and it’s real. It’s what today’s teenagers have been yearning for.
